Website for an amazing project! Richard Mason and Margarita Porras from Los Angeles [California – USA]have done a documentary talking about the art of “fire dancing”.
From the site:
Fire is a fantastic element that has been around since the beginning of existence. It’s a Sacred Force that creates and animates but can also destroy and annihilate. Fire ignites the passion, wonder and mystery in every human being. A person who dances with fire becomes God-like in his or her defiance of natures power. Why would somebody want to spin fire? What drives them to perform with the risk of serious injury? “Fire Dance with Me” is about Fire, but also it’s about people who dance with fire, their hopes and dreams, their lifestyles and how performing with fire has influenced their own existence, for better or for worse. FIRE DANCE WITH ME shines a light on the amazing world of Fire Dancing, which for past 15 years has exploded into a worldwide craze, attracting thousands of artists, creating enormous Fire Dance Festivals and inspiring new generations to expand this art beyond the limits. Join us as we take an inspiring look at the people who dance and play with fire. Discover their philosophies, hopes, dreams and what motivates them to risk bodily injury for the sake of art. From street performers to the weekend fire enthusiasts to full time Fire Dance professionals, this film will present the full spectrum of the fire dance culture and it’s different forms. These people have inspired my life and we want to share their stories with the world. Production began in 2009 when we traveled to the Yucatan peninsula where we were first introduced to this magical dance with fire. We witnessed people spin, twirl, and juggle these blazing objects almost defying the very forces of nature. Captivated and hypnotized by these incredible feats, we had to find out more. So we began filming the every day lives of these fire performers and creating portraits of each artist’s unique life. As we filmed, we began to see this Dance with fire as a poetic affirmation of life, human and nature coexisting. With your help we would like to expand our celebration of fire dancing to North America, Europe, Australia and beyond. Fire Dance with me is more than just a performance film. It’s a spiritually uplifting series of portraits that tells the stories of the young artists who have taken on this obscure practice and made it into a beautiful art form that thousands of people all over the world practice daily.
